The nations electoral body, independent national electoral commission (INEC) has extended the voting period of the ongoing governorship poll in Anambra state till Sunday, November 7, 2021.
The commission relayed this to journalists through the resident electoral commissioner, Dr. Nwachukwu Orji. The commission cited malfunction of the Bimodal voters accreditation system (BIVAS) machine and late arrival of materials due to how some drivers and ad-hoc staff failed to show up as the reason why some people will have to come back to cast their votes on Sunday.

While it would have been great if everyone had the opportunity to cast their votes today, the extension given by INEC is applaudable and also an advantage to the people of Anambra state.
This is an advantage because every citizen of Anambra will now have the chance to cast his or her vote, there will be no excuse of not being able to vote despite going to the polling unit. Anyone who couldn't cast his or her vote on Saturday has now been presented with an option of going back tomorrow which is Sunday. This will enable every eligible voter to have a say in the electoral process.
Secondly, there are people who would have been afraid of going out due to the incidents that ensued before the election date. Despite the promise made by the federal government and INEC that, the election process will be smooth and safe, some people still couldn't come out due to fear. However, by tomorrow they would have gained confidence to come out for the election after seeing how smooth the election exercise went today.
We hope the people of Anambra State will capitalize on the extra advantage given to them by INEC.
