Some members of the Nigerian army have reportedly burned down some houses and a school in Peva town, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to residents, many people were fleeing the community because of the attacks and burning of properties belonging to members of the community.
A resident identified as Nathan Tyozenda, said that a school belonging to one Prince Paul Gaza who is a businessman in the community was burnt down in the early hours of Saturday 18th July.
Tyozenda also said that houses belonging to the Chairman of Peva Ya market, Mr. Orhemba, alongside houses belonging to Mr. Iermber Vaatyough, and Prince Iordye Gaza , have been burnt down by military personnels of the Operation Whirl Stroke in the town.
The Chairman of Tiv Cultural and Social Association in Takum Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Suleagbough, cried out saying that Gberifan and Tse-Iorver villages were burnt down in the same manner by the soldiers.
Suleagbough said that if they are looking for criminals as they claim, why do they have to burn down people’s property.
He asked why they had to burn down a private school and people’s houses.
