The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor has said that the Nigerian Army will engage retired military officers to tackle insecurity in the Northeast. General Irabor said this today when he had an interactive session with retired senior officers from north-eastern zone and added that the retired military officers will look for holistic solutions about how to bring to an end the insecurity in the Northeast region.

This wonderful decision is coming after armed bandits stormed Nigerian Defence Academy, killed some and abducted others, an incident regarded by many as a National disgrace. I am still wondering what gave bandits the guts to attack the Nigerian Defence Academy without thinking of the repercussion, their boldness and ruthless attitude is what baffles me most times when news of their attack starts trending.

The plan to engage retired military officers to tackle insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in Northeast is a nice decision because I know so well that these retired officers have experience that other serving officers may not have and when they introduce their wealth of experience in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria, it will go a long way to annihilate terrorists who are the major cause of insecurity in Northeast.

What Role Will The Retired Military Officers Play?

Engaging retired military officers will lead to the introduction of new tactics as these experienced men would want to prove a point by ensuring that they find a lasting solution to the rate of insecurity in Nigeria. These men were in active service before they retired; they have engaged in a battle with terrorists be for and they know the best way to handle them, engaging them to tackle insecurity will be one of the best move in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.

I would urge the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Defence to make this a reality by inviting retired military officers to fight insecurity and defeat terrorists.
