Should a Christian get a tattoo?

This topic has been quiet a controversial one in the Christian Faith, the issue of whether a Christian should get a tattoo or not. Well it's quite a controversial topic and what I might say may not go down well with everyone as people have different opinions on the matter but I'll try to be as articulate as I can.

Well if we would go to the old testament, we see a passage in the Bible that speaks about making inscriptions on the body or having tattoos on the body. In the book of Leviticus 19:28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.

Well that was a law given to the Israelites in the wilderness. The law would have still been applicable today if it was included in the ten commandments but those kind of laws are a group of Law called ceremonial laws which have been abolished by the ministry of Christ.

So the issue of that verse of the Bible being against persons getting a tattoo is not actually valid and correct, so let us take the next approach. A Christian should be armed with the attitude that his body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. He should know that his body has been bought for a price and that his body is no longer is. He's merely using Someone's possession. So he should know that whatever he wants to do with his body,, that God must be involved, Whether it is dyeing his hair or getting tattoos.

He must know that God is very interested with what we do with and on our bodies. It means that God should have a say in how you manage your body. Do you think that God would love us making altercations on the skin he gave us?of course no. If tattoos were very nice,we would be born with them as birth marks. Getting to the point ,the fact is that a tattoo won't send someone to hell fire. It can't lead someone to condemnation or damnation.A sinner that had tattoos before he met Christ can't remove them and those tattoos won't make him lose his salvation. So the point here is for us to know that the Holy Spirit should have a say in whatever you do with your body.

Paul says all things are permissible but not all things are expedient. Ist Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

A tattoo might not do you any bad but what way does it help your Christian faith? In what way does it add value to you?. Ask yourself these questions. So we should arm ourselves with that same mind as Paul did.

We should know that somethings are not meant for us. Some people will say what about drawing religious images like crosses, so i ask them do those crosses or images preach Christ, do they show your identity as a believer? Do they tell others about Christ?

Answer those questions yourself. So in my opinion, I would authoritatively and vehemently say that getting a tattoo as a Christian is very wrong but it shouldn't serve as a tool for condemning others.

Remain blessed.
