The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse has commented on ongoing proposals for the legalization of bhang.

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act allows for the medical and scientific use of cannabis, but prohibits its recreational and commercial use, according to Nacada.

The authority added in a statement, "Let it be known that the law remains in effect and that anyone found in possession of or trading in cannabis will be arrested and charged."

George Wajackoyah, the presidential candidate for the Roots Party, has claimed in his manifesto that, if elected president on August 9, he will legalize the commercial use of marijuana in the country.

The lecturer thinks that the profits from massive marijuana cultivation would be utilized to pay off Kenya's debt.

"Let us face the facts, cannabis byproducts are quite useful. We can use it for medicinal purposes, soap manufacturing, and many others," Wajackoyah stated when he first spoke about legalizing bhang.

The professor of law stated on Thursday evening, while introducing his manifesto, that if we grew cannabis in Nyeri county alone, Kenya would have 10% of the IMF's total cash reserves.

"In the future, we will never need to borrow a single coin, "he remarked.

During his campaigns, Wajackoyah has used examples of countries that have legalized the substance to promote the bhang agenda.

However, Nacada denounced his theory as dishonest and sought to set the record straight by elaborating on cannabis use control mechanisms.

"It should be highlighted that some of the remarks made in favor of legalization are deceptive, as they are intended to excite the public, particularly the youth," Nacada stated.

According to the authority, UN member states adopted the 1961 Single Convention and categorized cannabis as possessing the most toxic and addictive chemicals that do the most harm to humans.
