President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of former prime minister Raila Odinga are currently working on the modalities for crafting a political alliance. Few days ago, Jubilee party secretary general Raphael Tuju, his ODM counterpart Edwin Sifuna, Junet Mohamed who is the minority whip in the national assembly among other top ODM and Jubilee leaders held their first engagement over the plan.
However, Jubilee deputy party leader Dr William Ruto has been opposed to the alliance even as he indicated that he expected president Uhuru Kenyatta to support someone from within the party for the presidency in 2022.
And now, vocal Murang'a county senator Irungu Kang'ata has come out to indicate that he believes 99% of Mt Kenya residents will vote for deputy president William Ruto in the 2022 presidential election if president Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga unite to form a political alliance.
The former senate majority whip says that Mt Kenya region leaders will stick with deputy president William Ruto even if president Uhuru goes ahead and supports Raila Odinga.
"Legally speaking I am still in Jubilee, but my soul is in UDA. Technically, it appears that jubilee will dissolve and support NASA and once that happens, then some of us will stick with William Ruto and 99% of people from our region will support him," he said.
