There was a controversial decision after the appointment Committee of parliament presented their report to reject some three nominees who appeared to be vetted. These were Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and Hon. Akoto Owusu Afriyie, who were vetted for the ministries of Fisheries, Information and Agric respectively.
Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the managing editor of the insight newspaper, on 4th March 2021 morning show on Pan African TV added his voice to what he describes as a shameful day for the NDC. The news editor stated that it was very clear that the place or position of the NDC was dissatisfied with some of the nominees who appeared before the vetting committee of parliament. He continued that despite their position, the leadership of the party in parliament went ahead and put their fingers in the eyes of it supporters and told them to go to hell, according to his expressions. He stated that what happened was a clear act of betrayal by the NDC leaders in parliament, having allowed majority of their votes to go for the rejected nominees.
Mr. Kwesi Pratt felt that in approving ministers, the ultimate issue to consider is the national interest and not partisan. He felt some of those who were approved were not competent enough to handle the portfolios they were given. Some, he said, had no idea of the structure of their sector as ministers and yet the NDC members in parliament made it easy for them to become ministers. Mr. Pratt said this was disgraceful and they refuse to adhere to all the cautions that were sounded by their followers.
Mr. Pratt reminded the NDC that there were serious grievances but the NDC voted clearly with huge margins for the rejected nominees. This to him was disgusting and an embarrassment to the supporters who voted for the parliamentarians.
