The next governorship election in Imo State may still be two years ahead but political players in the state who have ambition to run for governorship seat are already working underground to achieve their aim.

The current Governor of the state, Hope Uzodinma will be contesting for second term in office. His reelection may likely be tough because of the circumstances upon which he came into office.

Remember Hope Uzodima came from behind to emerge as the Governor of Imo State after Emeka Ihedioha had already been sworn in as the Governor of the State.

The Supreme Court verdict on January 14, 2020, declared Hope Uzodinma as the authentic Governor of the State after several legal tussle.

While Uzodinma is working to win his reelection in 2023, PDP is looking forward to winning the State back after the opposition party lost the control of the state following the ruling of the Supreme Court.

One politician that might help APC and Hope Uzodinma win Imo State in 2023 is the former Governor of the State, Ikedi Ohakim who recently decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Ohakim served as the 4th executive Governor of Imo State and governed the state for four years. He has been able to build a strong political network for himself in Imo State.

His defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress came at the right time as the ruling party tries to win more influential politicians in the state before the next governorship election.

The influence of Ikedi Ohakim will help Uzodinma and the ruling All Progressives Congress to win back Imo State in 2023.

Despite the fact that Ohakim is no longer in office, he still controls a large number of followers in the state as a former Governor, it will be easy to use his political structure to work for the successor APC in 2023.

Although, there are indications that the former Governor of the State, Emeka Ihedioha may likely return to contest the 2023 governorship election in the State, political pundits believed that with the support of Ikedi Ohakim who just joined the ruling party, it will be easy for APC to defeat PDP in the next governorship election.

Remember, Ikedi Ohakim still has political loyalists in all the three senatorial districts of the state as a former Governor, this is why APC and Uzodinma can bank on his influence to win the next governorship election in Imo State.
