According to a statement released by the Kirinyaga Youth Alliance, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru could be a one-term governor.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) estimates that 70% of Kenya's electorate is under the age of 35.
Kirinyaga youth announced on Tuesday that they had backed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Purity Ngirici in her campaign to unseat Waiguru in 2022.
"We sat down and discovered that Wangui Ngirici is the only leader we elected and who has been with us in various projects as youths."
"As a youth, we will support her in her gubernatorial campaign, which is why we founded the Kirinyaga Youth Alliance," said Sammy Maina, the group's founder.
Waiguru was accused by the youth of neglecting the Kirinyaga electorate, particularly in terms of health and job opportunities for young people.
Waiguru was also dubbed "Kenya's Mother of Corruption."
