Accra College of Education on Friday, 19th February, 2021 observed one of the major ceremonies on her Academic Calendar; a Matriculation ceremony which the College is mandated to organize to officially welcome and register newly admitted students into the College. The event which took place in the College's Great Auditorium was the 3rd of its kind to be observed following the inception of the famous B.Ed. Program. The B.Ed. Program replaced the Diploma program in Colleges of Education in Ghana in the 2018/19 Academic year as part of the new educational reforms.

The College's Senior and Junior management members, tutors, students and members of the press converged at 10am to honor the event. The brief ceremony which was largely dominated by the Principal's speech saw 420 freshmen and women officially initiated into the Gye Nyame family.

Dr. Samuel A. Atintono, the Principal in his address, congratulated the Matriculants for their successful admission and hinted to the gathering that over 5,000 potential applicants nationwide expressed interest into Accra College of Education during the application stage, of which 4,137 qualified but the College was only able to admit 420 students which includes 225 males and 195 females representing 54% and 46% respectively. This, he said was due to the limited accommodation facilities available to the College. Notwithstanding, ‘’the number of female admitted has been increased by 22% this year,’’ according to the principal.

He further admonished the freshmen and women to make use of the available facilities of the College such as furnished lecture halls and labs, Wi-Fi connectivity, resourceful tutors and the academic friendly environment created by the College in order to maximize their potentials and achieve their aims in the College. The event successfully ended when all the freshly admitted students had all signed the Matriculation register.

The Students' Representative Council, on Saturday followed suit with a sports event which had similar objective to the Matriculation. As a way of entertaining and also building cordiality amongst both the new members and the older members of the student community, the sporting event was dubbed; AcCE SRC Freshers Games.

Playing across the Four Main halls in the college, Nii Kwakwranya II Hall (Males) were the ultimate winners of the Males' football competition following their 1-0 win against the Ama Hesse Hall (males) in the final to retain the status they attained in the previous year. Aside the male football, one other competition that excited spectators on the day was Female Volleyball. It was reported that Ladies from the Bampo Henaku Hall grabbed all the headlines when they won the Volleyball tournament as well as the football competition in an exciting fashion.

As if it was ending on Saturday but Sunday morning offered yet another unprecedented event for students, especially freshmen and women. The Chaplaincy assembled all students in the College's Great Auditorium to praise God for "all his benefits". As part of the worship experience, funds were raised in support of the College's Religious activities. Many dignitaries were in attendance to grace the occasion. Notable amongst them were Dr. Samuel Atintono, the College Principal, Rev. Philip K. Avuduahor (special guest), H. E Bright Bosomtwe, SRC President and guests from the trinity seminary.

The experiences from last Friday through to Sunday proved a positive energy for the freshmen and women as they sat for their first ever assessment exercise on Monday morning. Speaking to some of them, they were full of confidence and less tensed due to the encouragement from the College authorities, tutors and the assessment officers. "Our tutors are really helping us to settle well in terms of our academics," one student told reporters from the SRC Media. "They are very open to us and always ready to assist. I am actually confident that I will do well in the Interim Assessment," another student added.

Both first and second-year students affiliated to University of Ghana commenced their Interim Assessment tests on Monday, 22nd February, 2021 and will end on Wednesday, 24th February, 2021.
