The 2022 presidential elections continue to heighten, with more leaders coming out to declare the seats they will be running for in 2022.
And now President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have received a major blow after National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi announced that he will be running for the presidency in 2022.
His announcement came while he was addressing residents in Wajir county. He was accompanied by Jubilee MPs and other leaders who backed his presidential bid.
Muturi's announcement is a challenge to Uhuru as he tries to rally the Mount Kenya region behind Raila Odinga in the 2022 elections.
The region has been sharply divided, with DP Ruto taking the biggest share of the region's support as he has the backing of the most vocal MPs from the region.
The Mount Kenya Eastern region led by Kiraitu Murungi and Justin Muturi had threatened to detach themselves from the Central Kenya bloc if Muturi is not recognized as Mount Kenya spokesperson by their Western counterparts.
