The contentious desire of Deputy President William Ruto to purchase enormous swaths of land for the benefit of landless people has shook coast politics.
Dr. Ruto has made a land deal with local officials and begun advertising it in order to earn a big percentage of the region's 1,8 million votes.
Raila Odinga, a presidential candidate, has slammed a land agreement between Deputy President William Ruto and a group of Coast lawmakers.
Raila claimed that DP Ruto is a land grabber who is using his land plan to steal from Kenyans.
Raila had previously claimed that the contract signed by the UDA presidential candidate on Wednesday, which includes provisions for, among other things, buying vast tracts of land and compulsorily obtaining idle properties on the Coast to settle squatters, was a "after-thought tactic" to deceive 1.5 million people, was a "after-thought tactic" to deceive 1.5 million people.
"He (Ruto) came up with that (idea) after he realized that we (the Azimio-One Kenya alliance) had expressed interest in hiring a Coast son, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, as the land minister to work through the complex and often emotionally charged land issues on the Coast and throughout the country," he explained.
