Opinion: What APC Should Do After Malami Told Keyamo That His Call For Buni's Removal Is Senseless

It can be recalled that about 2 days ago, Festus Keyamo warned the All Progressive Congress APC, of imminent legal tussles if Governor Mala Buni remains the leader of the party.

Festus Keyamo expressed his reaction about the removal of Buni as APC Chairman, after the Supreme Court of Nigeria declared its judgment, on the October 2020 Ondo State Governorship election. It can also be recalled that 4 out of the seven-member panel dismissed the appeal of Eyitayo Jegede, to remove Rotimi Akeredolu as the elected Governor of Ondo State.

Apart from Festus Keyamo, some members of the APC like Babafemi Ojudu special adviser to President Buhari on political matters, and Ita Enang, special adviser to the president on Niger Delta affairs, also warned against the party going on with its planned Congress, with Governor Buni as the leader of the party.

I want to point out what the All Progressive Congress, APC should do after the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami told Festus Keyamo that his call for Buni's removal as APC Chairman, is senseless and unwarranted.

APC should have a meeting to discuss who truly should occupy the Chairmanship position of the party.

Malami and Keyamo are both ministers under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. Abubakar Malami being the Attorney General of the Federation, also serves as the Minister of Justice in Nigeria and Festus Keyamo is the minister of state for labour and employment. The fact that Malami and Keyamo disagree on the leadership position of the party, shows that all is not quite well within the APC and it isn't advisable for them to go into the 2023 general elections like this.

I think the All Progressive Congress should call for a meeting, as regards the chairmanship position of the party, and the position of the members of the executives.

In the meeting they should first of all discuss the Supreme Court judgment, on the Ondo State election and also take note of how PDP would have won, if Eyitayo Jegede had included Governor Buni, in its appeal against Akeredolu's victory as Governor of Ondo State.

Also, they should point out that according to the constitution of the party, nobody is allowed to be a Governor and Chairman of the party at the same time.

Also, to avoid issues after the meeting, as regards the person that would occupy the position of the chairman of the party, they should ask the members of the party, if anyone of them is interested in the chairmanship position of the party.

Then each member of the party should vote the next chairman of the party, from those that showed interest in the position of being the chairman and the nominee with the highest vote should be the next member of the party. Of course, this should be done after they have ensured that no current Governor of a state is part of the nominees.
