Embu is led by governor Martin Wambora who was elected into office twice and he is serving his last and final term. Candidates are coming out to succeed Wambora in the next general elections.
Manyatta member of parliament Hon John Muchiri is said to be eyeing the seat, something that is likely to make the race looks tough. Most politicians from Mbeere and Manyatta and advocating to have the governor come from these areas and not from Ruunyenjes where Wambora reportedly comes from. Muchiri has served the Manyatta constituency with a lot of integrity and his entry might completely change the politics in this region.
Another politician who is seen as a potential candidate in the race is deputy governor Hon David Kariuki. Kariuki has shown interest in succeeding his boss. He also has good political ground in the region, something that could see him sail through to the top county seat.
The third candidate likely to be in the race is Hon Peter Njeru. Njeru is the current Senator of Embu County and his entry into the race is likely to make the gubernatorial politics interesting.
