News Hub Creator

The race for the presidency is hitting the center stage in public discourse, with many politicians and political parties already making preparations for the highly anticipated presidential election. Nigerians are already permutating about who will be the country's next president, despite the fact that the election is still a few years away. Whoever becomes Nigeria's next president in 2023 will be succeeding president Muhammadu Buhari.

In this post, we will take a look at three former PDP governors who could be heading to Aso Rock in 2023.

1. Bukola Saraki

Former Kwara state governor and ex-Senate president, Bukola Saraki, is likely going to be named the People's Democratic Party's presidential flagbearer for the upcoming presidential election. The PDP chieftain is set to sway the party to victory in 2023.

Sarak would be the sole candidate to pick the ticket if rumors about the opposition party zoning its presidential ticket to the north are legit. He was the governor of Kwara state for eight years before being elected as the country's Senate president in the 8th National Assembly.

As a result of his experience and educational background, the party will be prepared to give him the presidential ticket and field him as its candidate for the next presidency.

2. Peter Obi

Peter Obi is another former governor that could be heading to Aso Rock in 2023. This is because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be searching for a candidate from the north and south, and Peter Obi will almost certainly be named as their presidential or vice presidential candidate. He ran for the vice presidency alongside Atiku Abubakar in 2019, and he may be given the same chance in the next election, which is just a few years away.

He was the former governor of Anambra state under the same political party. He governed the state for eight outstanding years and accomplished a lot.

So, as an experienced and intelligent politician, he could be the ideal president Nigerians have been searching for.

3. Rabiu Kwankwaso

Rabiu Kwankwaso was also a former governor who served Kano state for eight years before contesting for the Senate. He served only one term in the Senate before quitting active politics. However, Kwankwaso is ready to return to politics again, as he plans to depose the ruling party in Kano state and restore the opposition party back to power. With his connections and considerable followers, the PDP may be pushed to give Kwankwaso its presidential ticket, and maybe pair him with Peter Obi in the south.

Whoever becomes the party's ticket holder for the upcoming presidential election, the PDP will be reluctant to recapture power from the APC.

So, whether they field a northern candidate or someone from the south, they should also be expecting a tough contest since the ruling party is also doing everything possible to retain power in 2023.

In such setting, the presidential election will be intensely contested, but the winner in 2023 should be determined by the will of the people, regardless of political affiliation.

So, in my opinion, these are the three former PDP governors that could be the country's next president in 2023. What are your thoughts on this?
