Somalia is one of the countries that has experienced political instability for the last 30years. There has never been a stable government in the Horn of Africa. Somali citizens are still yet to participate in democratic elections where each citizen elects his or her leader in person.
Furthermore, the East African nation has been destabilized by the Al Shabaab terrorist group that has been carrying out series of attacks across the country. This has created panic in Somalia hence scaring away potential investors.
Today Somalia has a reason to smile after the government announced new dates for the Presidential election. According to the latest news the election of the President in Somalia will take place on Oct 10, 2021, per the new election timetable. The election of Upper House MPs will be held on July 25, while the election of Lower House parliamentarians will start from Aug 10 - Sept 10.
This comes after the Upper House in Somalia extended President Farmajos's term in office by two years, a move that backfired badly. The move was condemned by the international community as well as Somalians who demanded fresh elections be conducted. The Somalia President bowed to pressure and allowed fresh elections to be conducted.
