Accra Hearts of Oak will have another opportunity to redeem their broken image from the CAF Champions League.

The Phobians will host Algeria club, Jeunesse Sportive de Saoura in the first leg of the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup playoffs at the Accra Sports Stadium. Hearts of Oak dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup after a crushing defeat to Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Champions League over two legs. The first leg ended 1-0 for Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium before the Phobians suffered a 6-1 defeat in the second leg at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca to end it on 6-2 aggregate. Hearts of Oak qualified for the 2021/22 CAF Champions League after winning their 21st league title last season with 61 points.

They have started this season on a jerky note after going four games without a victory. They were held to a goalless draw by Legon Cities FC at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first week before being held to a 1-1 draw at the Sogakope Park against West Africa Football Academy. Hearts of Oak were pegged back by two time Ghana champions, Aduana Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium in the third week. They took the lead but Aduana Stars pulled parity to end the game at 1-1. The Phobians had a day to forget at the Clay Stadium in the fourth week. Yaw Annor and Abdul Salam scored in each half to hand the millennium champions a 2-0 defeat.

The Phobians will miss their week five clash of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League fixture against Berekum Chelsea due to their clash against JS Saoura. The first leg of the playoffs comes up at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 28 with the second leg in Algeria in a week after the first leg. The winner of the two legs qualifies for the Group phase of the competition.
