The word "Poverty" is used to refer to a state of not having enough or adequate resources/materials possessions or income for a person's basic needs. It may include political, social and economic elements. Most Kenyans experience absolute poverty, it includes complete lack of means needed to meet basic personal needs such as shelter, food and clothing. Most people in Kenyan poorest counties are experiencing poverty, they lack either two or all the three basic needs. This was clearly seen during the pandemic where most Kenyans suffered alot.
The economic development of Kenya is really going through alot, it's hindered by the level of poverty in different parts of the country especially during this pandemic. Kenya was one of the most developing countries before the outbreak of the Coronavirus which slowed our economic growth. According to the latest research from Kenya National Bureau of Statistics poverty is highly experienced in Turkana, Mandera and Kakamega. The number of people living below the poverty line is massive compared to other counties.
Kakamega, Mandera and Turkana county has the highest number of people experiencing poverty in the whole country. According to the research over 78% of Turkana population are living below the poverty line. Most of them are unable to find access to proper housing, water, sanitation, nutrition, health, information, child protection, education among other things.
Kakamega county came second with over 35% of Kakamega's residents live under the poverty line. Mandera came third in the research, 77% of Mandera population are struggling with poverty.The other counties that made it to the top 10 are Kilifi, Kitui, Busia, Kisii, Bomet and Nakuru county in that order.
