Ghana's former Finance Minister, Mr. Seth Terkper has sent a message to government about what needs to be about the Free Senior High School education.
Speaking on Joy FM this morning, Mr. Seth Terkper clearly revealed that most of the flagship programmes, including the Free Senior High School initiative (Free SHS), and the Agenda 111 are unsustainable and for that matter, something must be done about it. He added that there should be a review of these flagship programs especially the Free SHS program
"Free SHS in its unfettered form is not sustainable. Your debt is not sustainable, and you’re borrowing. You’re using your whole revenue to cover compensation and interest" he said.
He added that when there was hardships in his government in 2015, government halted several flagship programs in order to boost the economy. He added that government had plans to construct 200 E-blocks but due to hardships, they did less of that target.
He is therefore calling on the government to do the needful and halt some flagship programs including the Free SHS. He believes that IMF is good but the amount of expenditure in the country is too huge.
