Multiple reports from verified sources on Social media this afternoon have it that the House of Reps in conjunction with the federal government is making a new proposition that will see to the scrapping/ total removal of the National Youth Service Corps scheme. The Scheme which has been in existence since 1973 is expected to be removed if the Bill passed by the Reps get approved.
This new development will see a dip in Youths external experiment beyond their immediate environment and it can affect their relationship with people of other tribes and entity. NYSC scheme in many ways have helped Graduates to get connections in many parts of Nigeria and the little allowance paid to Corps Members has been a source of livelihood for so many Graduates who don't have anyone to look up to. However, if the Bill passed by the house reaches a conclusive point, all these benefits enjoyed by Youths might be cut short.
In reaction to this report, some Nigerian Youths have shown their full support towards the Bill and they hope that the Scheme gets scrapped as soon as possible especially in the Era when Insecurity is on the rise in Nigeria. To them, it will be so good and beautiful if the federal government effects this plan because they feel it's a waste of time for Youths who have better aims. While some suggest total scrapping, others feel the Scheme should be made optional for Graduates and some other persons advised that the Allowance paid should be given in bulk so that they will start something tangible to earn a living.
It's mixed reactions on Twitter and for you Readers who are Nigerians, we ask that are you in support of NYSC removal or do you have a better idea of what the Government can do to help fresh Graduates?
