Houssem Aouar, a French midfielder, is still hoping that Arsenal will make an attempt to sign him this summer. The midfielder from Olympique Lyonnais has long been a target for the Gunners. According to The Mirror, his move to the Emirates fell through two years ago.

The north London club was determined to sign the French midfielder in the summer of 2020 but were unable to reach an agreement with les Gones. Since then, Aouar's career has stalled, and the creative midfielder is thought to be struggling to find a new club. According to Spanish outlet L'Equipe, the 24-year-old has only piqued the interest of Real Betis in the Spanish La Liga.

According to the report, Aouar is holding out for a move to the Premier League and is not interested in joining the Spanish club.

The French midfielder has only one year left on his current contract at the Groupama Stadium, and Lyon are understandably eager to offload him. Lyon could sell the midfielder for as little as €15 million (£12.6 million), as per reports, after asking £40 million for his services in 2020. Last season, Aouar was one of the first names on Lyon's teamsheet under Peter Bocz. During the 2021-22 season, he appeared in 44 games across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.

When Arsenal wanted to sign Houssem Aouar in 2020, he was one of the most in-form players in the world. He's only 24 years old and still has plenty of football left in him. However, he has been in a bit of a slump in recent seasons. However, the Frenchman's availability for a bargain makes him an appealing option for the Gunners.

Arsenal desperately needs more quality and depth in their midfield, and Aouar could provide both. This summer, Mikel Arteta's side has been linked with midfielders such as Youri Tielemans and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Even if the Gunners fail to land either of their primary targets, Aouar would be a valuable addition.
