Kenyans have had an opportunity to learn following a post made by Ma3Route on their official Twitter handle. They posted a question to engineers on the relevance of the protruding metals spotted along the Mombasa road expressway.
"Engineers on the TL, what's the relevance of these protruding metals along Mombasa Road Expressway?" Ma3Route
Here is the explanation from Eng. Dr John Mativo, "Concrete is strong in compression but relatively week in tension. An Engineer can either increase the size of the member to withstand the load or 'post-tension the concrete' to 'reduce the part of the member under tension. Post-tensioning allows one to reduce the member size."
