A beehive of activities have dominated the political arena as the country heads to the 2022 general election. Although it's unclear the political direction that Mt Kenya region will take after the retirement of president Uhuru Kenyatta, it's quite evident that Uhuru Kenyatta together with the Kieleweke group might back the former prime minister, Raila Odinga, for the top seat.
During the Mt Kenya Foundation meeting with Raila Odinga at Safari park hotel earlier this week, Kieni MP hinted that the Mt Kenya parliamentary group had organized a meeting with Raila Odinga. Kanini Kega went ahead to say that the meeting was to take place before the end of this week.
True to his words, a group of Mt Kenya politicians who support president Uhuru Kenyatta (popularly known as Kieleweke) are currently holding a meeting today, Thursday 30th, with Raila Odinga at the Serena hotel in Nairobi.
Among the parliamentarians who are attending the meeting include; Sabina Chege - Women Rep Murang'a county, Kanini Kega-MP Kieni, Wanjiku Kibe - MP Gatundu North, Ngunjiri Wambugu - MP Nyeri Town, Peter Kimari - MP Mathioya, Peter Mwathi - MP Limuru, Jude Njomo - MP Kiambu Town, Mary Waithira - MP Maragua, Waihenya Ndirangu - MP Roysambu, Mercy Gakuya - MP Kasarani, Jeremiah Kioni - MP Ndaragwa, Amos Kimunya - MP Kipipiri, Nduati Ngugi - MP Gatanga, Wachira Kabinga - MP Mwea, among others.
The details about this meeting have been disclosed by Kanini Kega in his social media handles.

It now looks quite evident that the Kieleweke group has resolved to support Raila Odinga in his quest for the presidential seat. The group also escorted the ODM party leader during his Mt Kenya tour last weekend. This is now a major blow to the deputy president, William Ruto, who have always seemed to enjoy overwhelming support from the region.
