How to make a healthy Zobo drink


Today I’m going to show you how to make Zobo drink. I make Zobo drink mostly for nutrition so I add loads of things into it that ensures that I’m getting all of the nutritional benefits that this drink offers.

Zobo is a very versatile drink and you can add whatsoever you want into it. To make the healthiest Zobo, you need some hibiscus leaves, 1 pineapple, 1 cucumber, 2 oranges, 2 large thumb sized ginger, 1 tablespoon of ground cloves and sweetener of choice.

Place the Zobo leaves in a bowl of water and dip into the water. Take it out immediately using your hands in other to remove any sand or debris in the leaves.

Peel off the skin of the washed pineapple and set aside. Do not discard, we are going to cook it with the Zobo leaves and other ingredients. Cut the pineapple in large chunks and set aside as well.

Cut the cucumber and ginger into large chunk size. You can peel off the skin of the ginger if you want to.

Cut the oranges into quarters and remove the back and seeds. Ensure you remove all the seeds if not you will end up with a bitter Zobo.

Place the Zobo leaves in a pot along with the pineapple skin, pineapple chunks, cucumber slices, ginger, oranges and ground cloves. Add enough water to cover the surface and stir. Cover to simmer on medium to low heat for 25-30 minutes.

After 30 minutes take off the heat and fish out the pineapple chunks, oranges and ginger. Put them in a blender and blend till completely purée. The purée helps sweeten the drink.

When the Zobo has cool down, place a sieve on a mixing bowl and separate the leaves from the drink. For the blended purée , place a cheese cloth on the sieve and pour the purée into it. Squeeze tightly to release as much juice from the purée.

Add some orange juice if you don’t want to add any sweetener. Place your Zobo drink into some glass jars or plastic bottles and store in a fridge up to 7 days and in the freezer for as long as 2-3 months.

This is a very healthy drink and perfect substitute for fizzy drinks. It is loaded with a lot of minerals and vitamins. It is best served cold.
