See numerous natural resources that are present in Ondo State, Nigeria but not well utilized

It is no doubt that Nigeria is a rich country particularly when it comes to talking about natural resources. Hardly will you talk about a state in Nigeria without attributing one or two natural resources with it. Ondo state is one of the state that is richly blessed in Nigeria today in terms of natural resources. It is referred to as the Sunshine state. Ondo state has its capital in Akure.

The state is predominantly occupied by the Yorubas who speak various dialects of the language such as the Akoko, Akure, Apoi, Idanre, Ijaw, Ikale, Ilaje, Ondo and the Owo. Ondo State, which is indeed a miniature of the Nigerian nation, is blessed with resourceful, industrious and hospitable people.

The state is blessed with resources ranging from bitumen, Granite, Marble, Gold, Gemstone, Clay, Diorite, natural gas, gypsium, feldspar, glass-sand, Demesion stones, limestone coal deposits and Lignite all in commercial quantity. Ondo state is one of the oil producing states in Nigeria, it has the 2nd largest bitumen deposits in the world. Also, it has one of the largest natural gas deposits in the world.

From bitumen alone, several other products like Asphalt, synthetic crude, sulphur, nickel, kaolin and gemstones. All these are very essential resources for the development of a nation.

Asphalt is used in building roads and construction, synthetic crude is used in the production of Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene, sulphur is used in the manufacture of rayon, cellulose, fungicides and insecticides in pharmaceutical companies, nickel is used in the manufacture of stainless steel and pherous alloys, kaolin (clay) is a useful natural resource in chemical industries and pharmaceutical insulators while gemstones

Asphalt

With these number of natural resources, it will interest you to know that Nigeria still import most of them into the country. For instance now, Nigeria still imports crude oil, natural gas, among other things into the country.
