Chelsea FC will maintain their Premier League lead with a 3-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday evening, according to Paul Merson.
The London based club are coming off a 3-1 victory against Southampton at Stamford Bridge just before the international break. Thomas Tuchel's side leads Liverpool FC by a point going into this weekend's games, but the Blues may fall behind the Reds by the time they start off on Saturday, as the Reds travel to Watford in the day's lunchtime match.
Brentford, however, have made an impressive start to their debut season in the Premier League, picking up points at home from Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and Liverpool FC. The Bees are currently in seventh position in the table, just four points behind their opponents.
Despite their good start, Merson, a former Arsenal and England midfielder, is banking on Chelsea FC to win this weekend. Merson predicted a 3-1 away win in his Sportskeeda column, writing: "I'm going to be at this game!" I keep betting against Brentford and they keep surprise me, so this has to be it, right? They keep proving me wrong, but I'm confident I'll be right sooner or later. "But, jokes aside, they've been absolutely excellent this season and have rightfully amassed a large number of points at this stage of the Premier League season."
“For this game, I think Timo Werner will start alongside Romelu Lukaku. Brentford plays three at the back, so there will be plenty of room for runners to exploit along the channels. "Werner has the speed to do just that, and he's coming off a strong performance for Germany, so he could get the nod for this one." Chelsea FC's two most recent meetings with Brentford were in the FA Cup in 2013 and 2017, with the Blues winning both games.
