Most of our parents told us about one myth or the other, some said if you think throw you removed teeth to the roof top, then it will regrow, another is that if you whistle in the night a snake might visit you, but all these things are to make you feel scared.

We all know that chew gum has been around for centuries now and there's a myth that says when you swallow gum it stays in your stomach for seven years and another said it will block your butt.

But what actually happens might surprise you,

Ok to solve this superstition, let first understand what a gum is:-

According to The History Channel, Chew gum can be traced back to 9,000 years ago when ancient Mayans were known to chew a thing called "chicle" which can cure thirst and was gotten from a sapodilla tree.

The modern gum we all buy these days all copied the chicle of the ancient world but instead the modem one is made from synthetic or natural rubber, that rubbery substance is mixed with sweetener, that is why the flavours fills your mouth when you chew it.

Do you know that the stomach can't breakdown/digest gum, but that doesn't mean it is harmful, whenever we eat food, the enzymes from the mouth break down the food to aid us swallow it and when it is swallowed , more proteins and enzymes nutrients are released to the body and excretion begins.

Gum can't be broken down at all, the way it wa s swallowed that's how it will be and remain intact in the stomach but not for 7 years or even a week or even 1 or 2 days.

According to a Cleveland clinic, our adaptive digestive system will help notice it's a chew gum and then send it down to be excreted

However, specialists advised that there are some cases that when chew gum is swallowed it may cause some blockage in the digestive tract and this can happen when it's a great amount of swallowed gums whichis rare, but if the blockage ever happens it can lead to stomach pains, constipation, and other symptoms.

Don't believe myths unless your mother is a doctor, and when a sugar free chew gum is taken it can help to tooth and enamel unlike the sweet ones that spoils the teeth.
