The lady justice Martha Koome joins the books of history in Kenya for being nominated as the first woman to be the chief justice, the third under the new constitution and the fifteenth in independent Kenya.
Born in 1961 in Kithiu village in Meru County, she was a former student of Chogoria girls high school. She joined the university of Nairobi for her LLB Degree in law and layer the kenya school of law.
She was admitted at the bar in the year 1986 and has 33 years Experience in legal practice. Currently, lady justice Martha Koome is a judge at the court of appeal.
The appointment of lady justice Martha Koome caught Kenyans by surprise as many Expected that experienced senior council fred Ngatia and justice ouko will be the one to take the position.
When submitting the name of Martha Koome, the judicial service commission chair Olive Mugenda, did not give the ranking of the other contestants as expected. When asked about it she said that their work was to find the best and not to rank.
