There have been numerous calls by most Ghanaians on the Government to prosecute the perpetrators of galamsey. However, veteran Lawyer and President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo has stated that he needs evidence in order to prosecute the alleged criminals. Degraded galamsey site

During a panel discussion about the menace on TV3 today, Friday 16th April, 2021, Johnny Hughes questioned his panelists on the show. He said, "lf you listen to the tone of President Akufo-Addo, it seems he needs evidence before he can prosecute.

One of the panel members called Dr. John Mawutor said, if this is coming from the president then, it is unfortunate. He said," As a the one in charge of government, you want us to give you evidence before you can prosecute?

He continued by saying that President Nana Akuffo Addo should be briefed by the security agencies about these matters on daily basis. " I recommend that he should invest in the security agencies to help them find out more evidence for prosecution.

Dr Mawutor then added that the National Investigation Bureau, National Security, police and the military should be on the ground looking for information about the cartels.

He further adviced the New Patriotic Party to kick start their business of day so that at the end of the four years they would have something to show to Ghanaians. "I am happy he has reduced the number of number Deputy Ministers" he added.
