Amidst these poor performances, one of the Red Devils players that have been highly criticized is Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar has been accused by some of being too lazy in terms of pressing the opposition. Some have suggested that the 5-time Ballon D'or winner be benched to give some other players a chance in his position.

Manchester United has a wide array of attackers which include Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood.

In a situation whereby Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decides to bench Ronaldo in today's game against Atalanta, here are two ways he could set up his starting XI. Check it out below:

Option A

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could play with a 4-4-2 formation with David De Gea lining up in the goal.

Victor Lindeloef and Harry Maguire could continue to form a pair in central defense with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw keeping their places as wingers.

Donny Van De Beek could be used as a central-midfielder alongside Bruno Fernandes while Diogo Dalot and Paul Pogba occupy the wings.

Marcus Rashford, who marked his return from injury with a superb goal against Leicester City, could be used up front alongside Edinson Cavani.

Option B

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could also line up with his 'favored' 4-2-3-1 with Cavani being the main striker.

In this case, Paul Pogba and Greenwood could be deployed to the wings while Bruno Fernandes keeps his place as an attacking midfielder.

Fred and McTominay could complete the midfield composition by playing as double-pivots.

The backline could remain the same as option A.

It's surely going to be very hard for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to bench a superstar like Ronaldo. However, bold decisions need to be taken sometimes for the good of the team.
