Nigerian military authorities on Friday announced the renaming of the ongoing counterinsurgency operation in the North-East from Operation Lafiya Dole to Operation Hadin Kai.
A statement signed by Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima indicate that the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru approved the name change because progress has been made and there is need to re-align for better efficiency.
The statement titled, ‘Nigerian Army Renames Operation In The North East, Seeks Inclusiveness,’ directs all Army Super Camps, formations and, units and sub units as well as forward operating bases to reflect the change immediately.
The statement also asserted the COAS resolve to bring the war against insurgency to an end.
Operation Lafiya Dole, coined from the Hausa language means 'peace at all cost' was set up to check the activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.
The re-designation Hadin Kai is also coined from Hausa meaning 'join head'.
It may entail going head to head with the insurgents or joining heads together to bring the insurgency to an end.
