With the emergence of Covid-19 disease in the world, all learning institutions in Kenya and particularly primary and secondary schools were all closed for ten months to safeguard the lifes of many parties involved in the sector, the ministry of education revised the school calender with short duration in a move to ensure learning resumes to normal soon.

Since the new calender reduced learning weeks from 39 to 30, the ministry of education reduced fees for secondary schools. National and extra county schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Thika, Nyeri and Eldoret currently pay Ksh 45, 000 per year, county and sub-county schools outside the stated area pay Ksh 35, 000 per year, special needs schools pay Ksh 10, 860 with the day schools paying nothing.

Since the new secondary schools fees have been effective since July 26 this year and they will seize to function on March 4th 2022 meaning this is the date fees will rise to normal.
