Open Letter To The SouthEast Governors On The Newly Formed Vigilante Group, EbubeAgu

Recently, the southeast has been faced with a level of insecurity never before witnessed in the history of the region.

Ever since the Nigerian army launched an attack in Orlu, an LGA in Imo state, the region has been thrown into a spate of insecurity with officers and facilities of the Nigerian police carrying the greater burden of attacks from men suspected to be members of the outlawed ESN group.

In a space of 2 months, about 5 police stations in Imo state have been razed down with weapons carted away as well as some officers paying the ultimate price with their lives.

In other to find lasting solutions to this unwanted carnage in the region, the 5 governors of the southeast met today in Owerri to profer solutions on how to best combat this ugly incident.

In a 15 point communique issued at the end of the meeting, one major thing that was resolved was the need to form a joint southeast security vigilante named Ebubeagu.

Dear Southeast Governors, this is a laudable feat.

However, this gesture is a little too late as the region has already been thrown into darkness by the activities of hoodlums.

Even before the ESN came into the picture, there was this clamor for the region to immediately set up a vigilante group to combat the activities of criminals in the region.

This was a move to follow through with the other regions like the southwest who had formed Amotekun, gave it government backing and also, empowered the group to start proper work.

However, this never happened until today.

The southeast region is home to different types of people owing to the business-oriented nature of the region.

In other for the newly formed security outfit to do well and create the needed peace in the region, the ESN members should be granted amnesty and absolved into the Ebubeagu vigilante group.

If this does not happen, there is bound to be clashes among the newly formed group and the ESN which will snowball into a more serious break down of law and order in the region.

Also, the ESN group has always presented its mandate as securing the lives and property of the southeast region and therefore, needs to be properly given some good orientation by the state governments on how to achieve that.

All the 5 governors should also, dialogue with whoever is in a position of offering the needed advice to secure the region irrespective of affiliation.
