The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati has disclosed that the tendering wars are likely to delay the 2022 general elections plans.

While appearing before the parliamentary departmental committee on justice and legal affairs, Wafula Chebukati warned that the blocking and cancellation of the ballot papers tendering process was the greatest hindrance to their electoral planning process.

He has noted that the firm that had been awarded the tender was equal to the task saying that they personally visited the Greek company to ensure that they were aware of the whole process in order to be sure of the whole process.

“The IEBC evaluation committee visited the company and advised us that they can deliver. I am also aware that they did ballot papers for Nigeria, comparing Nigeria’s population and ours, then it’s obvious they can deliver,” Marjan said.

Sources say a senior government official and former IEBC officials were scheming to delay the procurement of the tenders to pave the way for single sourcing and direct tenders for the multi-billion deals as it happened in the 2013 and 2017 elections.

The Members of Parliament are expected to issue a way forward to the new revelation even as several more matters concerning the 2022 general elections are still waiting to be heard and determined in different courts.
