CONSIDER THE TRANSFER: Would Cele's move to the Chiefs have been a "step back"?

It's been speculated on in interesting ways why Thabo Cele's representation might not have found an agreement with the Chiefs appealing.

The Chiefs are taking some risky actions in the transfer market this summer, and Radomiak Radom's 25-year-old forward Thabo Cele has been linked to the club on multiple occasions.

During the time when Cele was a free agent last year, he was frequently rumored as a possible Amakhosi recruit. However, in October of 2021, he signed a two-year contract with Radomiak.

According to Polish writer Szymon Janczyk, Radomiak are eager to keep Cele because he is still a key cog in coach Mariusz Lewandowski's plans despite rumors to the contrary from Soccer Laduma that Chiefs had made an offer of €100,000 (R1.68m) to lure him back to South Africa.

Another rumor in the same journal suggests that, despite Chiefs' intentions, Naturena may make a new offer of around R3.4 million in order to lure Cele to join the team.

As things stand, Chiefs have little chance of convincing him to return to South Africa.

Hélio Martins, Thabo's agent in Europe, told SABC Sport this week, "Thabo is motivated to having a fantastic preseason and a successful start to the season next year." "We are aware that the market shuts later, but he is now focused on Radomiak."

The excellent Kaizer Chiefs have shown interest, although a deal has not been finalized yet.

Phakaaathi's report reveals, however, that going back to South Africa was not seen as a career boost.

His friends and family say he would jump at the chance to play for the Chiefs, but rumors have it that his management company is determined to have him return overseas.

They think he's too young to come back to the family now that he's grown up. But he is not completely opposed to the idea. I just don't see it happening this time. His management thinks that keeping him in Europe will help him get to the big leagues faster, so they plan to keep him there even if it means playing in another small league.

They think it would be very detrimental to Cele if he were to return here. It would be tough for him to go back overseas because "not many scouts are interested in the local game anymore," the source said.

Five new players have joined the Chiefs as they begin preseason training for the 2022/23 season. These include Dillan Solomons, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, and Lehlogonolo George Matlou from Swallows FC; Siyethemba Sithebe from AmaZulu; and Mduduzi Shabalala, who has been promoted from the Chiefs Reserve team.

After locking up Ashley Du Preez and Zitha Kwinika for the next three years earlier this month, the Chiefs' management and technical team have been scouting for players to complete their roster and help them win the DStv Premiership this upcoming season.

In addition, Yusuf Maart has officially signed a three-year contract with a two-year option with Kaizer Chiefs.
