The new month of May has seen changes in weather patterns as heavy rains have been witnessed over several places across the country. The Kenya Meteorological Department has been working hard in the provision of accessible meteorological and climatological to the general public in accordance with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
The Kenya Meteorological Department working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has provided a seven day weather forecasting updates whose validity ranges from 3rd to 9th May 2022. According to the forecast, rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the South Eastern Lowlands, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin.
1.The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley; (Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, West Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Busia, Migori, Baringo, Nakuru, Narok and Laikipia counties,
Morning rains accompanied with afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to be experienced over several places during the forecast period. The nights are likely to be cloudy with with a chance of showers expected over several places and occasionally spreading over several places. The maximum temperatures over these areas are likely to range from 21°C to 30°C while minimum temperatures to range from 11°C to 19°C.
2. Occasional morning rains are expected in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County; (Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Embu, Kiambu, Meru, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties. Afternoon and night showers are also likely to be experienced over a few places during the forecast period. The residents of these areas are expected to be ready for cold and cloudy conditions within the forecast period hence they should not forget to carry their umbrellas.
3.The South-Eastern Lowlands and the Coastal Strip;(Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties),
Occasional morning rains are expected to be experienced over a few areas during the forecast period. In the same way, afternoon and night showers are also expected mostly in the first half and over a few places thereafter.
The expected changes in weather patterns due to adverse rainy conditions is likely to have an effect in the disruption of transportation and businesses activities.
