Chelsea Football club is an English Football club which has definitely shocked the football world yet again. The story behind the success of the team comes almost always with the sack of a previous manger, the appointment of another with high expectations of change and the expected change manifesting on pitch.

This is not an article to praise anybody in particular or to talk down on any manger or player (Present and past in Chelsea). But this article centralizes on the success Chelsea had the last time they reached the UEFA Champions League semi finals . The events which surrounded it or led to it and the blissful outcome for Chelsea.

Chelsea had quite an awful beginning to this season in the English Premier League. They scored less goals than ever before and picked less points than they usually do at the beginning of the campaign.

This led to the immediate dismissal of Frank Lampard from Chelsea and the appointment of Thomas Tuchel from Borussia Dortmond. With this change, Chelsea improved and has continued to surprise us.

Since Tuchel became manager, they have kept 12 clean sheets, they have currently reached the UEFA Champions League semi finals (the last time was in 2011). They are also in the FA Cup semi finals. They are very close to the top Four in the FA Cup.

This will definitely show you that the change of manager was worth it. Narrowing this down to the events that occurred the last time The Blues reached the UCL Semi finals.

This was in 2011. They started the campaign in group E with other teams like Bayer Leverkusen, Valencia and Genk. They finished the group stages as group winners will 11 points from three wins, two draws and a lost.

They qualified for the knock out stages. The round of sixteen match was against Napoli. They lost the first leg away (1-3) but came back in the second leg with an outstanding (4-1) win to win the match 5-4 on aggregate.

The quarter final match was against Benfica. They scaled through smoothly with double wins in both legs.

The semi- final match was one which shock the world. It was a match between FC Barcelona and Chelsea FC. Surprisingly, they won the first leg (1-0) at home. The second leg was more of defensive play as they trailed 2-1 at Camp Nou.

This was the scoreline until Fernando Torres scored the goal which level the match leaving Chelsea with a 3-2 win on aggregate. The whole world paused that night as Chelsea FC eliminated Barcelona.

The finals was played at the Allianz Arena, Munich. The home stadium of Bayern Munich. To crown everything, the final was played between Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

After 90 minutes, the match ended 1-1. Extra passed went pass with the same score. The game went into penalties. Digier Drogba gave Chelsea FC the UCL title with his penalty kick which made Chelsea win that match 4-3 . What a year for the Blues.

Is history about to repeat for Chelsea?evaluating the situation then and what is on ground now, both years, Chelsea had a change of manager. They also faced a Portuguese team in the Quarter finals ( Benfica in 2011. FC Porto in 2021).

They faced Spanish giants in the Semi finals. (Barcelona in 2011, Real Madrid in 2011). Does this mean that the same fate will occur? Some believe that life is a cycle of repetitions.

This might actually be the kind of advancement Tuchel needs.

Let’s watch and find out. Will Chelsea beat Real Madrid and win the UCL?

Comment yes or no.
