Many Nigerian celebrities have left fame and quit most of their professional careers which made them famous just because of marriage. Many of this our talented Nigerian celebrities are no longer appearing on screen anymore and have devoted their time in taking care of their family and marriage. 1. Regina Askia

Nollywood diva and ex-beauty queen Regina Askia in the early 90s secretly got married to Rudolph Williams. It took about a week for people to find out that she is already married. Shortly after her wedding she quit Nollywood and relocated to the United States of America with her husband. She is currently a practicing and registered nurse in a reputable hospital in New York City in the United States of America, where she currently lives with her husband. Regina Askia together with her husband has two lovely children Teesa Olympia and Rudolph Junior. Regina Askia also has a step daughter named Stephanie Hornecker from her husband previous relationship and the young girl is now an international model. Regina Askia started her acting career in 1993 when she played the role of a gold digger in an NTA soap opera titled “Fortunes”.

2. Karen Igho Rakos

Karen Igho Rakos won the 6th season of Big Brother Africa. The continent loved her goofy personality and voted for her massively. Karen won BBA season 6 and took home the $200,000 prize money. She came out of the BBA house to find that she had garnered lots of fans from all corners of Africa.

Karen married Jaroslav Rakos in 2014 and relocated to the U.K, which makes her one of the 10 Nigerian celebrities who left fame for marriage.

3. Dakore Akande nee Egbuson

Dakore Egbuson Akande was an A-list actress who suddenly quit acting after her wedding to Olumide Akande in 2011. Her absence from the screen made her fans and admirers wonder if she was taking a break because of her marriage. Thankfully for everyone who missed her, Dakore was back to acting by 2013 starring in a movie called Journey to Self.

4. Sandra Achums

Sandra Achums was a popular actress back then, but she dumps fame for marriage. In 2006, Sandra Achums relocated to Germany where she married a Nigerian businessman based in Germany. Sandra Achums currently lives in Germany with her children and her husband who is known as Tony. In 1995, Sandra Achums made her entrance into the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as Nollywood with the movie titled “Deadly Affair”. In the movie she acted alongside with Nollywood actors like Dolly Unachukwu, Jide Kosoko and Emeka Ike. The movie brought her to limelight and gave her a lot of advantage in the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as Nollywood.

5. Georgina Onuoha

Georgina Obuoha was one of the most-loved leading ladies of the 90s and 2000s. She began her Nollywood career as a child actor after starring in the 1992 movie Living in Bondage. The Africa Movie Academy Award winner got married to Dr. Ifeanyi Igwegbe and relocated to the United States to start a new life. Although now divorced, Georgina doesn’t seem to be making moves to return to acting.

6. Rita Nzelu

Rita Nzelu broke into Nollywood as far back as 1990 with roles in movies like Living in Bondage, Long John, and Nneka the Pretty Serpent. Rita got married and relocated to the U.K with her family, thus ending her acting career.

7. Uche Jombo

Nollywood talented actress Uche Jombo secretly got married to Kenny Rodriguez in a low key wedding ceremony in the United States of America after her failed relationship to Ikechukwu Uche. After her wedding to her American husband Kenny Rodriguez, Uche Jombo quit acting and focused all her concentration and attention on her marriage. But during an interview in the media, she debunks the rumor that her marriage to Kenny Rodriguez has affected her acting career. In a chat with Sunday Scoop, she stated that the decision to choose movie roles carefully had nothing to do with her marriage. It was later rumored that the union which is blessed with a son was in trouble due to misunderstanding. But luckily for her, she quickly addressed the issue on her Instagram page, pleading with bloggers to stop spreading fake news about her.

8. Michael Okon

Michael Okon is the only man on this list of 10 Nigerian celebrities who left fame for marriage. His star-studded wedding to Kosi Obialor in 2018 was glamorous and well-attended by other famous celebrities. Michael hasn’t appeared in any movie since his 2018 wedding.

9. Di’Ja

Dija is talented, fierce, and gorgeous! The Mavin Records queen released her single Awww, which ruled the airwaves for months. When wedding rumours began to swirl around the songstress in 2015, she was able to keep everything under wraps for months. She confirmed these rumours only after welcoming her son months later. Since then, Di’ja hasn’t been as active in the music scene as much as before.

10. Agbani Darego

Former Miss World Agbani Darego took everyone one by surprise when she posted her wedding pictures. The wedding took place in Morocco in 2017. Agbani and husband Ishaya Danjuma lead very low-key lives. The couple recently announced the arrival of their son.

Some Nigerian celebrities prefer to keep their marriages out of the public gaze. It is not uncommon to find that a celebrity who had disappeared from the social scene had elected to do so after their wedding.
