Fela Anikulapo Kuti does not need any extreme introduction owing to the fact that his fame speaks for him. But for formality purpose, I will briefly talk about a little thing about the Late Legendary Musician before I talk about his Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren that have survived him.
Born as Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, Fela Kuti decided to change his name because of some reasons. He made some alterations as follows; he removed the Ransome in his compound name owing to the fact that Fela believed that the name symbolizes slavery because it is a Western name. He added Anikulapo which he defines as “having death in his pouch”. That is, he was the master of his own destiny and he would do whatever he wished with his life, especially the time to die. He believed that he will have to kill himself when it is time. That is how spectacular he was. A true Legend who always stood for what he wanted even at his own peril!
Many people were not born at the peak of Fela’s music career, they only listen to some of his songs; tales from different people and all sorts of myths which may be true or not. Some ignorant who were not born at the peak of Fela’s career tend to make comparison of this Man who introduced Afrobeat in Africa to the contemporary crooners of the generation.
That is a huge mistake. Even if you did not know Fela, go and read about him. The man was not a singer, he was a Musician. He made his beats himself, wrote all the lyrics of his songs without buying any of them, played several instruments like the Saxophone, Vocals, Keyboard, Trumpet, Guitar, Drums and many more to make his song sonorous, he never waited for a DJ to make a beat for him. He is different from most of the lazy singers in this generation who just buy lyrics from a song writer and also beats from DJs. They are totally different from Fela and they should never be compared. Instead, they can be contrasted, so that our singers will know what they are doing wrong these days.
Back to the nitty-gritty, as famous as Fela is, many people do not know much about his family, especially his children. Most of his children are still alive but many people do not know them .Although, some of them are not in the limelight today but still some of them are still doing fine like their father.
FelFela Kuti has died but his legacies live own. His children are alive and they have given birth to his grandchildren, some of his grandchildren have even given birth to his great-grandchildren. Thus, it is safe to say that, Fela Kuti has been survived by more than 3 generations after his death. Let’s dive into the introduction into some of these generations that survived him.
