How President Uhuru Met Interior CS Fred Matiang'i For The First Time

Fred Okengo Matiang'i is currently the Cabinet Secretary Interior and National Coordination. The Interior boss has the President's trust over his impressive performance in different categories he has served. Kenyans refer CS Fred Matiang'i as President Uhuru Kenyatta's most trusted Cabinet Secretary.

People argue he is a super minister and unofficial Prime Minister of Kenya.

President Uhuru working relationship with CS Matiang'i has increased since his appointment as Cabinet Secretary for Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Matiang'i ruthlessly pushed the media industry to adopt the digital migration and ruled out turning back to analogue.

On December 2015, during cabinet reshuffle Matiang'i was later appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Science and Technology. He did well in the education ministry effectively dismantling examination cartels. He brougt credibility in exams in the country.

Matiang'i became CS for Interior and National Coordination on 7th July 2017 following the death of Joseph Ole Nkaissery.

The two are said to have first met and developed some rapport during retired President Mwai Kibaki’s first term. Uhuru was by then the leader of opposition whereas Matiang’i was incharge of the Kenya Parliamentary Support Programme (KPSP).

Their friendship blossomed more when Uhuru became Deputy Prime Minister in the coalition government. In 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta having seen the potential in Matiang'i gave him a government post as CS for ICT.

On 23 January 2019, through Executive order number 1, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Matiang'i as chairperson of National Development Implementation and Communication Committe. The order handed the super CS an expansive responsibility to chair and coordinate government development projects and programmes.
