As the 2021 edition U.S Open is few hours to its opening stage, many tennis loving fans will miss the presence of two of the 'Three Big'- Roger Federer Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic as this will be the second time since 1997 they will be absent from the United States' biggest tennis event, part of it are due to the complication from the global pandemic. But the 2021 three-time Grand Slam winner, Novak Djokovic will be competing for his calendar year fourth major title, but how will the era of Federer and Nadal be, when he wins the U.S Open.
Big Three in World Tennis
According to some conclusions, they will find it difficult to admit should Djokovic upturns their record of 20 Grand Slam titles at the upcoming US Open. Some tennis pundits believe the duo will find it very hard to watch their long-time rival potentially make history in the big event when their respective ongoing injuries have forced them out of competition for several months.
Some weeks back, Federer announced that he would be absent for some time for him to heal as the 39-year-old Swiss undergoes his third right knee surgery, which had forced him out of some ATP World Tour events. At the course of the tour the world number nine, played just five tournaments since the turn of the year, disclosing that he sustained an injury from a grass related event, which at default caused his withdrawal from big global events like Tokyo 2020 among others.
As for the 'King of Clay', Nadal is also in the same boat as his Swiss counterpart, when he was about to defend his 2019 Roland Garros title against Djokovic at the final four of the French tennis tournament, which costed Wimbledon and also the Summer Olympics. He came back on short notice, after playing at some tour events. He made his U.S Open withdrawal announcement after some consultations from his medical team.
However, both men still have lifelines in coming out tall, challenging some top-rated players, as they struggle to see Djokovic bag his 21st Grand Slam in the States because they have the winning mentality, champion mentality believing in themselves. Federer and Nadal's stumbling blocks are the injuries, not the fact that they lack the passion to play the game.
