Popular Nigerian Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Gumi has come out to explain the kind of lifestyle bandits who kidnap school children live and why it would be difficult for them to leave the business.

The Kaduna-based Islamic scholar stated this on Tuesday during an interview with AIT, saying that the bandits don't live a luxurious lifestyle.

According to Gumi, the bandits live in huts, and drink from the stream, revealing that the bandits are constantly under attack by the Nigerian government.

He explained that the bandits will have no choice but to seek other means to defend themselves.

When asked if it was possible for the bandits to leave the business, the Islamic cleric explained that the bandits will not denounce the act of banditry, adding that they would not have other means to finance themselves if they leave the business.

According to him, some of the bandits were herders who had passed through series of hardships, adding that there is no part of Nigeria's budget that goes to them to help them cope with hardship and rehabilitate them.
