The present chairmanship crises being witnessed in the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, has been described as many political analysts as that which could have an adverse effect on the political relevance of Aswiaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
For many who know him, Asiwaju is not a stranger to Nigeria politics, as he has carefully avoided the pitfalls of the great Awolowo and MKO Abiola to remain relevant.
The Jagaban as he is fondly called became known to many, after was elected to represent Lagos West Senatorial District in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) before the Military took over in December 1993.
During the regime of General Sani Abacha, Tinubu was one of those who strongly stood against the annulment of the June 12 elections and this resulted in him going on exile.
The death of Abacha brought him back to Nigeria where he contested for the Governorship of Lagos State under the umbrella of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Under the platform of the AD, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu governed Lagos State for 8 years from 1999-2007.
As governor, Tinubu not only restored the glory of Lagos by returning to the blueprint, he raised and mentored notable men and women who are now in today’s political climate. These acts of his gradually made him the political godfather. was elected to represent Lagos West Senatorial District in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) before the Military took over in December 1993.
The role he played in the formation of the APC in 2014, and in ensuring the triumph of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections in the southwest greatly helped him to cement his place in the scheme of things as far as the present administration is concerned.
With the present leadership tussle of the APC taking center stage over the past couple of days, Chief Ajimobi presently in the hospital, Oshiomhole ousted by the courts, and Victor Giadom planning to hold a meeting at the presidential villa with the President fully backing this decision, many are of the opinion that this may just be the beginning of the end of Tinubu's reign as the godfather of Nigeria politics.
