13 killed on Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

It was such a tragedy on Wednesday afternoon as 13 people were said to have lost their lives in a ghastly accident as a white Mazda bus collided with a blue Volvo truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Reports gathered claimed that the commercial bus and the truck crashed into each other around the Wichtech Company in Ogun State, close to the end of the expressway.

The incident was confirmed by the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, Ahmed Umar, who claims the accident was as a result of over-speeding and wrongful overtaking.

The accident, which happened around 3.45pm, involved 25 people but 13 lives were lost, and 12 people were injured, according to the commander. 

The commander further claims the injured victims were taken to the Idera Hospital, Sagamu, for treatment, while the corpses were deposited in the mortuary of the hospital.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, a spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, also confirmed 13 fatalities.

Among the corpses were four children, said Akinbiyi 

“Twelve persons, comprised of five men, three women and four children were seriously injured.
