The English Premier League 2021/2022 season has reached it's climax and it's looking likely that Manchester City will win the title this year just like they did in the previous season even though Liverpool and their fans will certainly have other ideas.

Watford and Norwich have been confirmed relegated to the premiership next season so Everton, Leeds United and Burnley continue to fight to escape the third remaining relegation spot.

In all we have seen some very exciting and sensational performances from some individual players and teams alike. So after going through the stats carefully and looking at how integral players have been to their team's success on and off the field we have finalised our EPL team of the season. Take a look...

1. Ederson Morales

The Brazilian goal keeper has been very key to Pep Guardiola's side this season helping to build from the back with his fantastic passing range and abilities as well as coming off his lines very quickly and subtly to repel opposition attacks

He currently leads the 2021/22 Premier League clean sheets chart with 13 so far this campaign and is two clear of compatriot Alisson Becker of Liverpool as he chases a third successive Golden Glove award. To date, Ederson's overall stats make for very satisfying reading.

2. Virgil van Dijk

It wasn't surprising that Liverpool struggled to be consistent and effective last season after they lost their towering Dutch center back to a long term injury. His return this season has helped Liverpool mount a very strong title challenge. Liverpool's performances and achievements this season has been so exceptional that some people regard this team as the best ever Liverpool team.

Whether that is true or not is a story for another day .Virgil van Dijk has been part of 12 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, more than any other player. Van Dijk has made 30 league appearances this season, scoring 4 goals and delivering 1 assist.

3. Antonio Rudiger

In a season that has seen Chelsea put in average performances in most matches one player who can hold his head high is Antonio Rudiger. The German defender has kept a Clean Sheet in 13 matches out of the 30 that he has played in. He has won 95 aerial duels and 73 tackles. On top of this he made a total of 11 blocks. Though he has played his last season for Chelsea he will be fondly remembered by Chelsea fans.

4. Trent Alexander Arnold

8. Thiago Alcantara

It took some time for him to find his feet and rythm in the EPL but he finally did. Adding control and finesse to Liverpool's midfield. Dictating and controlling the tempo of the games. The much underrated South Korean has been unstoppable for most parts of the season. His electric pace, dribbling abilities and goal scoring prowress has put his team in pole position to qualify for either the Europa league or champions league next season. He currently has 20 goals just two behind Mohammed Salah who is leading the chart.
