The University of Nairobi vice chancellor Professor Stephen Kiama has strongly defended the university's fee increment issue.

The first year students reporting yesterday, 20th September 2021 will now be forced to dig deep into their pockets to afford paying Ksh19,635 for accommodation fee for a room shared by two students per semester from the previous Ksh 2,835.

The reports stated that the University of Nairobi professor Stephen Kiama said and i quote " if you don't have money, study in TVETS. The same way with alcohol, if you can't afford Hennesy, you buy chrome or Gilbey's, bora ulewe. Or if you can't afford University of Nairobi, go to KU or Moi" end of quote.

The vice chancellor claims to be in defense of this due to increment of many activities in the university and that he is strictly following the university's administration procedures.

This seems to disadvantage the students who cannot afford the stated high amount.
