The Mt Kenya region is fully behind Deputy William Ruto and his 2022 presidential bid, Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has said.
Ruto is among the prominent politicians who have declared their bid, and has been very much interested in a portion of the vote the region has to offer.
As a result, has has become a regular visitor of the region, despite opposition from President Uhuru Kenyatta, the regional kingpin, who is opposed to his candidature and has been openly bashing him.
Gachagua, an ally of the DP, on Wednesday said that he already has the millions of vote held by Mt Kenya natives, urging members of the Kamba community to follow suit and declare their support for the DP.
He urged the region to abandon its supposed leader and Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka, especially if he joins hands with ODM boss Raila Odinga, who is seen as Ruto's main 2022 opponent.
"In case Kalonzo decides to work with Raila, reject the arrangement because Raila is a political homewrecker who joined Jubilee and consequently led to the death of the country's largest political party," he said, as is quoted by The Standard.
He was among the MPs who accompanied Ruto for a meeting with small scale entrepreneurs in a Machakos hotel.
Area MP Victor Munyaka said that the community has settled on Ruto for 2022, adding that it has realized that this is the only way it can be a member in the next government.
"The Kamba community is determined to support Ruto because we are not ready to lose stake in the next government and we are inviting Kalonzo to consider working with the DP," he said.
Ruto expressed confidence that he will form the next government, saying that it will be a "hustler government".
Uhuru has been seen as determined to have a say in what happens in 2022, and has openly stated that he will be seeking to influence the outcome of the polls.
Currently, his preferred successor seems to be Raila.
