The All Progressives Congress has stated that it will choose a consensual and agreeable presidential candidate to represent it in 2023 at the right moment.
Sen. John Akpanudoehede, National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), announced as much in an Abuja statement on Tuesday.
The comment was made in response to a recent accusation by the Peoples Democratic Party that President Muhammadu Buhari had a self-succession plan.
However, the APC writer emphasised that the party will not allow personal aspirations to undermine Buhari's presidency ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
He said that, in contrast to the opposition PDP, the APC was a disciplined organisation, adding that the latter was just plagued by its history.
Akpanudoedehe remembered the PDP's third-term programme when in power, predicting that the APC will surprise the PDP with the results of its planned congresses, which begin on July 31.
“After our congresses and the National Convention, we will surprise them (the PDP) by bringing a consensus and a suitable candidate to fly the party's flag in 2023.
“Unlike the PDP, the APC does not have a third-term agenda. “Right now, our focus is on stabilising the party and ensuring that individual aspirations do not undermine President Buhari's administration,” he explained.
