Suspects in VBS arrests due to appear in court tomorrow Thursday 19 June, says Hawks boss Lebeya

There are eight VBS men who are currently the suspects of the 47 counts of corruption, fraud, racketeering, money laundering and theft. These suspects are due to appear tomorrow at the Palm Ridge Regional Court says Lebeya who is the Hawks boss. These men have not yet been officially named, therefore they have still remained anonymous. Though the men have not yet been named officially, it is alleged that the former VBS chairman Tshifhiwa Matodzi is among these eight men who have been arrested.

On Wednesday, Lebeya said at a press conference that these men managed to accrue an amount of R122 million over several months directly, indirectly, and unduly. These arrests were made through seizures and search operations. Lebeya has confirmed that investigation on this matter is still ongoing.

Below is the detailed counts as per Lebeya:

1. 7 counts of Fraud

2. 7 counts of Money Laundering

3. 5 counts of a "pattern of racketeering activities" in contravention of the Prevention of Corrupt Activities Act

4. 15 counts of corruption in terms of contravening the Prevention and Combatting of Corrupt Activities act and

5. 12 counts of Common Law Theft
