Many Ghanaians are skeptical about the government's renewed efforts to combat the activities of illegal miners in the country due to the Brouhaha that ensued in its first attempt to curb this menace.
The Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomea has revealed that the president's efforts to fighting galamsey in his first term as president cost the party many votes in the galamsey operating areas.
Nana Akomea made this revelation on 'Good Morning Ghana' on Metro TV when he acknowledged the effort of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to curtail the activity of the Galamsey operation in Ghana.
According to him, the commitment of the president to fight Galamsey is never in doubt but, it indeed cost him politically because many of the areas that the president lost votes were Galamsey operating areas.
He revealed that in the areas that the people are not engaged in Galamsey, they won massively, but in the areas where they are involved in the galamsey activities, they lost miserably.
He added that despite the effects suffered by the president due to his commitment to fighting Galamsey, he is still committed to fighting it to the end.
